Best States for Construction Worker Salaries

A recent study done by ConstrucConnect showed that the top three states for construction salaries were Alaska, Hawaii and Illinois.  The worst were North Carolina, South Dakota and Arkansas.  Because the cost of living differs so greatly by state, they also put together a list of the top 10 best salaries by state factoring in the cost of living index.  When done that way, Illinois, Missouri and Wyoming came in the top three.  Based on both calculations, it looks like Illinois is a good place to work.  For more details click here.

In another ConstructConnect post, Kendall Jones lists six ways to improve your construction company’s safety culture.  They include:

  1. Make jobsite safety your top priority; remember your employees are your best asset
  2. Properly train your workers to keep them safe and healthy
  3. Encourage your employees to get involved in reviewing, updating and communicating your safety program
  4. Hold everyone accountable for safety
  5. Develop incentives to reward the good and punish the bad
  6. Conduct daily site inspections and safety meetings

Are Safety Helmets the New Hard Hats?

According to an article by Shane Hedmond in ConstructionDIVE, hard hats have been almost synonymous with construction job safety, but their major flaw is that if workers fall, the hard hat often flies off.  Safety helmets, which have chinstraps to keep the helmets on, are being tested on jobsites.  According to the post, the major drawback for construction companies is that a standard hard hat runs between $15 to $20 while a safety helmet can run from $100 to $150.  Click here to learn more.
