Software Advice Surveys

Software Advice, an online service intended to help match prospective buyers with construction software companies, has conducted its own surveys over the past few years.  In 2013, it reported that 49% of its survey participants used spreadsheets, supporting ConstructionPro Network’s findings (17% of respondents still prepare an estimate manually, with 46% using a spreadsheet and 31% using an estimating program).

The 2013 Software Advice survey additionally reported that medium-to-large companies using construction estimating software produce faster and more accurate bids than spreadsheet users, while spreadsheets proved satisfactory for smaller companies. Cilck here for the 2013 survey.

In its 2015 study reported this week, the company found that 52% percent of prospective buyers use pen and paper to conduct estimating, takeoff, bid management and other processes, with 32% using spreadsheets, 21% using construction software, 19% using QuickBooks and 14% using other software. The article goes on to discuss the costs and benefits of investing in a construction software program. The 2015 report is available here.
