Most states have enacted consumer protection statutes governing construction or improvement of residential property. These laws spell out in detail the required elements of a valid written contract, including notices to homeowners of their consumer rights. Back in the early 70’s, I was working for the contractor charged with installing track on the first 4.6 miles of the Washington, DC Metro. For the underground and aerial sections, the installation required a grout pad to support the elastomer-coated rail fastener pads. Our company ordered a custom Gomaco machine to lay a continuous grout pad, after which we could drill holes and install anchor bolts to hold down the pads. This worked well on the aerial structures, but not so well in the tunnels. Read more.
FAA 333 exemptions for commercial use of drones has now surpassed 5,000. As of April 27, 5,114 exemptions have been issued. Many of these are for construction, surveying and inspection (see breakdown below). In other news, PrecisionHawk, a producer of autonomous surveying drone technology, has raised an additional $18 million in funding bringing its total to $30 million. Read more.
